While my big bangs and back-combing skills could’ve garnered a sponsorship from Final Net hairspray in the 80’s, I’m a classically-trained vocalist, sporting a B.A. in both Theatre and Music from Beloit College. I enjoyed a short professional musical theatre stint (and table-waiting career) in the Chicago area before moving to Seattle in 1999. Here, I quickly found local and regional commercial successes on radio and TV—most notably as (bright green) “Babs” the caterpillar in “The Moneytree” commercials.
My burning and lifelong dream of one day singing backing vocals for the likes of Pink Floyd, Sting, or K.D. Lang eventually brought me to The Scrunchies’ door in Fall ‘23. Once again, back in the vocal saddle, I proudly study voice with the fabulous Dora Barnes. What a kick in the pants this all is!
As for my 80’s pedigree: I got more perms than I can count, went pretty consistently “collar up”, carried Love’s Babysoft perfume and Bonne Bell lip gloss everywhere, and was part of the Chicago beta-test audience for MTV. I continue to gravitate toward the innovative musical nuance and dramatic vocal stylings of new wave, synth pop, and new romantic music—and bands like: Duran Duran, Oingo Boingo, Tears For Fears, Depeche Mode, The Cure, New Order, Peter Gabriel, and OMD (to name a few). It’s an incredible honor to bring the music of the 80’s to life like this with such a fantastic line-up of musicians—and to celebrate it all together with you!
